Chance the Rapper was the real star of the Grammys here’s why
With Chance The Rapper’s many wins at this year’s Grammys, It is safe to say that 2017 is proving to be the year of the independent artiste.
The 23-year-old unsigned rapper won three awards at the prestigious award show for Best New Artist, Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Album. This may not be a big deal until you consider the fact that Chance is the first unsigned independent artiste to win a Grammy with an album that was never released for download.
Instead the album Coloring Book was released for streaming only. This means that the album is only available for listening online. Also, to beat out the likes of heavyweights Drake, Kanye West, De La Soul, ScHoolboy Q and DJ Khaled is no mean feat.
Meanwhile, what he wore to the award ceremony also raised a lot of eyebrows. He wore a slim-fit denim suit with a boxy jacket that grazed his hipbone designed by Thom Browne. He paired the pale blue two-piece with a tie in the same color, a crisp white shirt, and his trademark khaki 3 hat.
Revealing why he chose such a standout look, Chance’s stylist Whitney Middleton told Vanity Fair that the intent was to put a cool twist on traditional formal wear. Middleton also explained that the look was a “casual take on the shape of suiting without sacrificing the precision.”
