Close to Utako market during Wednesday's IMN protest.   Residents of Nyanya in the Federal Capital Territory have narrated their experience Monday evening during the deadly clash in the area between Nigerian soldiers and members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria.   The Shiites were staging yet another in their series of protest over the continued detention of their leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky. The protest took place in Nyanya in the FCT and neighbouring Mararaba in Nasarawa State.   Mr El-Zakzaky was arrested in 2015 after members of his group had a confrontation with the motorcade of the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, in Zaria, Kaduna State. Over 300 Shiites were killed by the army in that incident, killings that have been condemned by rights groups including Amnesty International.  

A young boy who was assisting his mother at her shop before he left for swimming, has reportedly died as he drowned while swimming in pool in the Ikeja area of Lagos.   Ifeanyi Onyekwere   A 17-year-old boy identified as Ifeanyi Onyekwere, has reportedly drowned in a swimming pool in the Police College, Ikeja, Lagos State, few hours after he was assisting his mother at her shop before he left for the college where he died.   While speaking to PUNCH Metro, Ifeanyi’s 48-year-old mother, Ada, said lifeguards at the pool did not watch over the swimmers to keep them safe.   He said,  “I was at my shop on Tuesday when a lady came to inform me that they rushed my son to a hospital at the police college. She said my son might have gone to swim because his clothes were wet.   "So, I went to the police college, but they refused to show me his body. The State governors in Nigeria have finally revealed the minimum wage they can pay to civil servants.   File Photo   Nigerian governors have announced that states can only afford to raise the national minimum wage from N18, 000 to N22,500 as against the N30,000 being demanded by organised labour.   The governors said this after an emergency meeting of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum in Abuja late on Tuesday.   This was even as the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress held nationwide peaceful protests to sensitise Nigerians to the planned national strike scheduled to begin on November 6.   The two unions are demanding N30,000 as the national minimum wage.   The Federal Government had earlier offered to pay N24, 000 as minimum wage.   Labour had declared that it would order workers to go on strike from November 6, 2018, if government refused to take a decisive action on its demand.   However, the threat of the workers was believed to have force

President Buhari yesterday has a secret meeting with governors of the main opposition party at the Aso Rock Villa.   President Muhammadu Buhari   Four state governors elected on the platform of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party on Tuesday met behind closed doors with President Muhammadu Buhari.   All the governors are from the South-South geo-political zone of the country. A Lexus SUV has lost control and fallen into a river in the Federal Capital Territory, leaving one person dead. The accident scene According to a report by Punch Metro, a young man, identified as Kingsley, has lost his life after a Lexus SUV lost control and fell into a river behind  EFAB Estate, Lokogoma District, Abuja, on Monday. Two other occupants of the vehicle survived the crash which occurred in the morning after the SUV fell off a narrow bridge and landed on its back in the flooded river. Northern City News reports that residents rushed to the scene and rescued the occupants, but Kingsley, who was the first to be rescued, inexplicably returned to the water and was swept away. His body was found later in the afternoon by divers. An eyewitness, who identified himself as Patrick, said he was in his room when he heard a loud noise from the scene, adding that some residents said they saw the driver on top speed before the crash. The Nigerian naira has recorded an improvement at the parallel market against major currencies. Currencies   The naira on Tuesday closed at N363.32 to the dollar at the investors’ window while market turnover at the window stood at 51.14 million dollars, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.   At the official CBN window, the naira exchanged at N306.60.   It was sold at N360.50 at the parallel market in Lagos, while the Pound Sterling and the Euro closed at N480 and N417, respectively.   Trading at the Bureau De Change (BDC) window saw the naira close at N360 to the dollar, while the Pound Sterling and the Euro closed at N480 and N417, respectively.   Meanwhile, Alhaji Aminu Gwadabe, President, Association of Bureau De Change Operators of Nigeria(ABCON) said the sustained fiscal discipline of the CBN would impact positively on the stability of the naira.   Gwadabe said that in spite of the shedding of the external reserves, the CBN was capable of susta
