He'll be alright! After he was bandaged up, surgeons at Restoration Hospital in Recife removed the knife during a delicate five-hour operation
Maximum security? Ferreira was involved in a fight last month with another inmate at the Professor Barreto Campelo high security prison on Itamaraca Island (pictured)
In the video he can be seen with the weapon plunged into the right side of his skull, inches away from his temple and eye socket.
The blade sliced through a black trilby which has been pulled further up the knife to reveal the sickening injury.
In the footage he's seen being escorted by police to hospital. The officers try to stuff him in the back of their van but the protruding blade won't fit.
Doctors were amazed that Ferreira was conscious, lucid and mobile. They expect him to make a full recovery and there are no concerns about his health.
An investigation launched to discover the motive behind the attack also scrutinised shortfalls in security which allowed the knife to slip through into the prison.
