CBN discovers over N2m counterfeit notes in Kano
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has disclosed that from January to November 2016 financial year; the Central Bank has discovered, N2,97120.00 counterfeit currency notes in circulation in Kano State as against N2, 101,400.00 discovered in 2015.
This was disclosed by the CBN branch controller Kano State, Mrs. Abubakar Ameena Pindar during the 2015/2016 Kano bankers dinner and award night ceremony held at Tahir Guest Palace Hotel Kano, according to her the statistics recorded when compared to that of last year signified a very ugly trend that needed serious attention and measures to strive to stop it adding that all financial institution were therefore requested to cooperate with the CBN in ensuring that counterfeit currency were mopped out of circulation in the nation.
Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, represented by Commissioner of Finance, Kabiru Dandago ,said “I want to use this opportunity to call on the financial sectors in Kano State to actively participate in corporate social responsibilities activities as part of their contribution to the communities they operated in; it is unfortunate that the financial sector in Kano state is lagging behind in that aspect,” said the commissioner.
