The immediate past Governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, has cleared the air over the shutdown and subsequent abandonment of the viewing centres erected in various parts of the state during his administration.

While reacting on a Facebook thread by a concerned Deltan, Aruviere Martin, Uduaghan, who lamented the present conditions of the centres, disclosed that the government had to shut down the centres for security reasons during the height of the Boko Haram attacks in parts of the country.

According to Vanguard, while describing the centers as very popular when in operation, he said: “These were very popular spots whenever there were football matches or other events. We had to shut them for security reasons.

“A viewing centre was bombed in Jos, Plateau State and there was threat of Bokò Haram moving down South. So the Department of State Services, DSS, advised that all public viewing centres be shut down nationwide. That was why we shut them down.”
