The President of Nigeria has been condemned by Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka for saying rule of law must be subject to the supremacy of the nation's security and national interest. Soyinka and Buhari   Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has berated President Muhammadu Buhari for saying that rule of law can be suspended for the sake of national security, according to a report by Punch.   The intellectual made this known at the opening of the 58th Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association in Abuja on Sunday, said,  “Rule of Law must be subject to the supremacy of the nation’s security and national interest.”   In a statement titled,  ‘Buhari’s Pernicious Doctrine’,  Soyinka said he was thankful that Nigerians were being given an advance warning of what is to come.   The Nobel laureate recalled that during his rule as a military dictator, Buhari locked up journalists under the guise of ‘national security.’   He said,  “Here we go again!

A Nigerian Future Without Buhari Is Possible

Image
Punch columnist, Abimbola Adelakun is looking at the future of Nigeria without the incumbent president, Muhammadu Buhari.   President Muhammadu Buhari   This week must be one of the most humiliating ones for the Muhammadu Buhari Presidency. Here and there, he has had to endure insults and unpleasant observations from leaders of western countries he has spent valuable time trying to impress.   First, it was the gratuitous insult from the United States president, Donald Trump, and then the British Prime Minister, Theresa May, piled it on when she used Nigeria as an exemplar of crushing poverty and retarded development. Nothing they have said about either Buhari or Nigeria is new or strange; we already know what ails us. What no one seems to know yet is how to upend this lousy government and pave the way for a more productive, and forward-looking governance. From the feelers one gets by reading and talking to Nigerians, it seems that many have already done the calculations
